Is It Time for a Roof Replacement?

How can you tell if it’s time to replace your roof? By keeping track of your roofing system’s lifespan and keeping an eye out for the warning signs of roofing damage. As your roof nears the end of its lifespan, warning signs will start to emerge.

The residential and flat roof contractors at Next Level Roofers list the warning signs in this post.

Granules in Your Gutters

Asphalt shingles—one of the most popular roofing materials in the country—can last up to 20 years. The granules embedded in asphalt shingles protect them from damaging ultraviolet rays. There’s no need to worry about a shingle or two being dislodged over the course of the shingle’s lifespan. Keep in mind that as the shingle nears the end of its estimated lifespan, it loses more granules. If granule loss is so severe that granules start accumulating in your gutters or bald patches start appearing on your roof, it’s time to start planning a roof replacement. Without these granules, your roof is left exposed to UV damage.

Blisters on Shingles

Blisters are formed when moisture trapped in a shingle evaporates and rises to the top. While blisters are not an immediate cause for concern, it’s best to replace shingles afflicted with them as soon as possible. If these blisters pop, your roof can be left vulnerable to moisture damage.

Curling Shingles

Curling shingles are usually a sign of an aging roof, but they can also be caused by inadequate attic ventilation. Without adequate ventilation, moisture can reach the base of the shingles, causing the shingles’ edges to curl.

Here’s a tip on extending your roof’s lifespan: Choose a roofing material that’s suited to your area’s climate and make sure to vet the contractors in charge of your new construction roof installation
